Our life in the slow lane...

Owen, Daddy and Mommy will be preparing for Owen's baby brother's arrival for the next few week. We've been buying supplies and working really hard to get Owen on a routine for the last couple of weeks. But with the baby's arrival just mere weeks away and Mommy still on restricted activity and since Mommy can't venture out of the house without Daddy and Daddy is very busy at work, we literally have only a few days to prepare for the new baby's arrival.

Here's what we have so far:
  • car seat: Owen's Uncle Tuan and Aunt Tahny bought a Combi car seat with carrier for Owen shortly before he came home, but he outgrew it before he even got a chance to sit in it. The maximum height limit on it is 29 inches and weight is 22 lbs. Owen was already 29 inches and 20-lbs when we got him, so we bought Owen a new car seat and gave this one to the new baby. It's a good thing we didn't have to go out and shop for one. It's stressful shopping for baby gear!
  • double stroller: well, Mommy and Daddy didn't want to push two separate strollers around when we're out and about, so we decided a double stroller was the best thing. Now, the hard part...choosing one. We love the MacLaren stroller we got for Owen because it was lightweight and easy to push, so we wanted another MacLaren stroller. So, we ended up buying the MacLaren Techno Twin stroller which is a side by side stroller. It's twice the weight of the single stroller, but it's very compact for what it is and fits nicely into the trunk of Mommy's car. Which will one day be replaced with a monster of a car to accommodate all the baby gear that comes wtih having two babies!
  • baby clothes: well, Owen never wore NB or 0-3 month old clothes with Mommy and Daddy, so we didn't have any "hand me downs" from Owen for his little brother, so we did actually go out to buy some NB and 0-3 month old clothes for the new baby. Since we've never had a newborn in our life, we weren't sure how many outfits are needed, so we bought 6 outfits each for these 2 sizes/stages (outfits include sleepers, onesies, burb clothes, towels, caps, receiving blankets, and mittens). That's probably not enough, BUT we're erring on the side of caution because Owen has enought outfits for every day of the month without repeating an outfit and we're finding that he's wearing the same 5-7 outfits all the time. Plus, we think we'll be doing laundry at least twice a week (baby and Owen's clothing), so an outfit a day should be good enough.
  • diapers: We bought a bag of 80 Pampers Swaddlers NB. Which should last about 10 days. We didn't want to get too many of this size, just in case the baby is a 10-pounder. After all, at our 28 week ultrasound, the baby already weighed in at a hefty 3-lbs 1-oz.
  • baby bottles: We bought some Playtex 4-oz bottles with liners just in case the baby needs to be bottle fed. And if we need to supplement with formula, we plan to have the baby drink the same formula Owen drinks, which is the Nestle Good Start. And we have plenty of Good Start in the house.
  • bath tub and bath supplies: We went out and bought an infant tub for the new baby along with plenty of wash clothes. Soaps and shampoos, we have (thank goodness we didn't have to stress about picking this stuff out--we're very indecisive).

Well, that's all we can think of at this point for the new baby. We'll be spending the next 2-3 weekends picking up things we didn't think about before.

In addition to new baby stuff, we also have to prepare for Owen for when we're unable to run to the store at the last minute to pick up formula, baby food and diapers for him. So, in the next 2-3 weekends, we'll get Owen a month's worth of his supplies.
