At 10 months, Owen is now standing without support. Daddy timed Owen on Sunday and he stood for 18 seconds! Owen likes to demonstrate his standing skills for anyone who is willing to sit, watch and then cheer him on when he's done. Owen usually stands up, turn around and yells at us to say, "good boy, Owen..." Then, he claps his hands expecting us to do the same. And if we do, he'll drop down to the floor and does it again. It's pretty cute. Owen is also getting bolder with taking steps on his own. If he's not really paying attention to the process of standing or walking, he would balance himself for a long time and then take a few steps towards whatever holds his interest. Usually, it's Daddy. If it seems like he's going to lose his balance, Owen would correct himself. He's come a long way from the little baby boy that only did the military crawl in Hanoi. But then again, that was ages ago!
He also babbles A LOT and says "daddy" clearly. Mommy would really like his next word to be "mommy or mama".
Before turning in each night and right after getting up each morning, Owen likes to snuggle up next to Mommy on the floor of his room next to his crib. He likes listening to Mommy's heartbeat. This morning, he woke at 5:30am and Mommy thought he was up for the day, so she took him out of his crib to play with him. He crawled around a little and then came to Mommy and put his head on her arm and slept with his head pressed against her heart. What a sweet boy! Owen and Mommy slept snuggled up on the floor until 7am when Daddy came into his room to check on us. Owen promptly got up and gave Daddy a big hug with a few pats on Daddy's back before Daddy left for work.
Owen also loves to have his head rubbed/scratched. Mommy usually rubs his back or legs while he's having his bottle, but if Owen's really tired and wants to fall asleep...he would take Mommy's hand and move it up to his head and motions for Mommy to rub his head. Of course, Mommy is always happy to do whatever it takes to make Owen smile or fall asleep.
Owen also has the cutest laugh Mommy has ever heard. Mommy can sit for hours watching old video clips of Owen laughing. But this is nothing compared to the real thing when Mommy tickles Owen and he's in a good mood. He has a very robust belly laugh.
Anyway, back to what we did today for Owen's 10th month birthday. Mommy and Grandma Truong fed Owen, for the first time, sweet rice with pork, mushrooms, sauteed with Chinese sausage, celery and seasoned with soy sauce and pepper, steamed in a rice flour shell and then pan fried to until it is golden and delicious. Well, this was Mommy and Grandma Truong's lunch, but Owen sat in his play yard and kept his mouth open the entire time waiting for us to feed him the sweet rice concoction. In the end, Mommy and Grandma Truong only ate the shell of this savory treat while Owen ate all the filling!
It was pretty funny watching Owen eat. As soon as a bite was stuffed into his mouth, he closed his mouth long enough to swallow and then opened it again expecting us to feed him the next bite. Mommy couldn't feed Owen fast enough. Grandma Truong had to join in the feeding frenzy so that Owen wouldn't yell at us for being too slow. What an eater!
Yesterday, Mommy, Grandma Truong, and Owen went to visit Grandpa Truong. Owen had a blast because he got to run around the house in his baby walker. Grandma and Grandpa's house is tiled and not as cluttered as our house, so there were very few obstacles in Owen's way when he ran like a madman in his walker through the house.
Owen alternated between running around in his baby walker and playing in his play yard in Grandma and Grandpa's living room. Aunt Lannie and Uncle Ino gave Owen a play yard just like the one we have at our house, so when Owen goes to Grandma and Grandpa's house, it's just like home to him. When he's tired of exploring on his own, he goes into his play yard with his toys and plays with Mommy or anyone who wants to join him in there.
Here are are some pictures of Owen from today and yesterday.
Here is Owen in his baby walker. He's wondering..."is it true that I can run around the house and not bump into anything???"
Here's a picture of Owen and Mommy after lunch. Owen's hoping that if he sits quietly for this picture, he might get another treat later. We'll see. Mommy has some ice cream the freezer, so she might share this with him. But Owen doesn't really like ice cream. Instead, he likes mashed bananas with whipped cream.
