Well, we completed Owen's first week home yesterday and it was pretty good considering all the people he got to know (Daddy, Grandpa Karpp and Grandma Karpp) have either gone back to work or left for Florida, leaving him home alone with his Mommy and Grandma Truong.
Owen's a very active happy baby. Happy about 90% of the time. And the other 10% of "unhappiness" is because we couldn't warm up his bottle in time.
At eight months, Owen has now mastered pulling himself up to a standing position while playing anywhere. Last night, he was a little fussy because he has a cold and didn't want to go down for the night, so Mommy and Daddy put him in his crib to let him cry himself to sleep (I know...bad Mommy and Daddy). Well, instead of crying his eyes out and getting tired, for the next 30 minutes, he demonstrated his ability to pull himself up to a standing position AND walk around the crib. Then for the next 3.5 hours, he blew raspberries at us and clicked his tongue to ensure that neither of us got any sleep.
He finally fell asleep around midnight last night and when I woke up, I saw Owen all snuggled up against his Daddy. Daddy was off to work by the time Owen got up this morning at 8:00am, so he was a little confused when he woke up and turned to his left and didn't see Daddy. He had a very disappointed look on his face. I called his name so he turned around and crawled towards me to touch my face and smile at me. We played in bed for about 30 minutes before I got his bottle ready. Then, Grandma Truong fed Owen his bottle while I went to get ready for the day. Overall, Owen is a very sweet baby even with a snotty, runny nose.
Other things Owen likes: Eating, Eating, and Eating...So, he takes after his Mommy and Daddy after all.
We start out each day with a nice 6 oz bottle of formula. An hour later, it's followed by a bowl of rice cereal mixed with 2 oz of formula. Than 2 hours after that, he takes another bottle and takes a long morning nap. He gets up from his nap hungry, so we feed him a little container of peas or carrots or whatever is in the pantry at the time. Then he gets a bottle 2 hours after that...Well, you get the drift. This kid eats on schedule. And he's starting to sleep on schedule, which should hopefully give his Mommy time to do other things beside change poopy diapers and make bottles of formula.
In his first week home, we also took Owen out on several SMALL outings. I emphasize small because we need to fit it in between his nap and feeding schedule. So, we get about an hour outside of the house each time before we have to head home to feed him or put him to bed.
On Sunday, we went to the Original Pancake House for pancakes and corned beef hash. Last Wednesday, we went to Extraordinary Desserts for lunch...and I forgot when exactly, but we also went to Babies R Us to get night time diapers and more baby food for Owen.
Owen has yet to try out the new stroller with Mommy and Daddy, but Grandma/Grandpa Karpp did take him for a walk around the neighborhood once. So, we'll try that again one of these days after he gets over his cold.
Owen initially did not like his car seat, but quickly learned that by sitting in the car seat for 20 minutes or so, he gets to go places. So, he's gotten calmer than his initial introduction to the car seat. Once we have a routine down for Owen, we'll be taking him out more, but until then, we're all TRAPPED in this house!
I don't mind being trapped in the house with such a sweet boy, though. Whether I'm changing his diapers or blowing raspberries with him, it makes my day to just hang out with my baby Owen.
